What Mother Earth teaches me about Motherhood

Mother’s Day is today.  For me, Mother’s Day is about honoring the women in my life who support and encourage me along life’s highway.  It’s also about being wrapped in Mother Earth and being protected.  I am embraced by the Earth right now.  Held in her arms, whispered to through the light breeze and the creek flowing in the distance.  I am welcomed into her sweet musky earth.  She is alive.  She is home to all of life.  As I sit upon her lap, the grasses and the leaves… her fingers caressing me and comforting me.  Her breath blowing the hair from my face.  She tells me I am loved.  That I belong.  She has seen much pain and sorrow but assures me that life proceeds, like it has for thousands of years.

The extension of her is in the women who embrace me.  The women who see me, the real me and they honor that, all of it.  The good parts and the not-so-good parts.  Love and acceptance wash over me.  The connection is always there.  Even when I forget.

There are also women who have forgotten and are so far removed from this connection that they hurt other women.  They compete and belittle.  It is our job, through kind works and words to remind them of what they have forgotten.  We can remind them and allow them to awaken to this ancient wisdom and connection.  We can all be empowered by this connection… by the the presence of feminine power.  We are that power.  I celebrate this today, on Mother’s Day.
