Re-Discovering Your Power through Retreats

How do you define power?  Are you living an empowered life?

During my holistic health studies I came across a lesson on power.  It made me look at where I  felt my power came from.  It made me look at where and how I felt powerful in my life as a woman.  As I discovered, my “power” came from feeling approval from others or when I was in a group of similar minded individuals.  To my surprise, I learned that this was false power I was feeling.  When I wasn’t in that familiar group or if I was feeling disapproved of, I lost my power.  I felt weak.  This realization took me on a journey to remember and reawaken the power I had given away to others.

Redefining what it is to be Powerful

  • What’s your definition of power?  Rewrite it.  For me, power is in learning to be with myself.
  • Retreat to remember your personal power.  A retreat provides the opportunity to take sacred time for yourself.  Schedule it.  You may choose to go on a planned group retreat or plan a personal retreat for yourself and create a self empowerment ritual iRetreat.org is a great resource for this.
  • It’s a process.  Be patient with yourself.  Be kind to yourself.  Trust in your own intentions.

“What is personal power?  It is the ability to find your own individual truth and then create your life around this truth.  It is finding the essence of yourself, validating it fully, and welcoming it into full expression.”  -from David Gershon & Gail Straub’s Empowerment book

In the past, I would’ve entered an event or gathering place looking for a familiar face or group of people in order to feel safe or strengthened.  Now, I’m the woman confidently entering the room, trusting herself, her instincts and intentions.

It’s a good place to be.
